Oakley Men's Flak Jacket Review

No One Will Give You Flak For Wearing These

When I first met my husband, he had a pair of sunglasses I hated. They looked good on him, but they were tiny and had a weird body style that just looked too narrow. I guess the only thing that really matters when you’re looking for sunglasses is how they look when they’re on, but I knew he had spent a lot of money on these, and I just thought they were terrible.

At some point during our relationship (and I SWEAR I had nothing to do with it) his prized Oakley’s went missing. He didn’t wear them all that often, so he has found intermediate pairs in the meantime. I would like to find a happy medium between the glasses he loved (that I hated) and ones that are too far from his style to make him happy.

Wider Frames Make A Difference

The Oakley Men’s Flak Jacket Iridium Sunglasses are similar to his glasses, but they are not quite as narrow or shiny. They have some bulk to the sides, and the arms are basically sculpted to look fancy. The O Matter frame gives it the look of a more substantial pair of glasses.

Sturdy For What Life Throws At You

The lenses are made of Plutonite, a polycarbonate, so they’re not the kind of glass lenses that are made to last forever. However, that doesn’t mean they won’t last if you look after them. Meanwhile, the frames are tested in a whole bunch of situations so Oakley can confidently say that they won’t break. The upshot is, these glasses ARE pretty sturdy.

Wide Foundation

The glasses are 60 mm, so they’re definitely made to fit a male face. Even though these look a little like the ones he had before, these sunglasses might actually be too wide for him. We need to have a happy medium between the tiny, narrow frames from before and the big, bulky frames we see on men’s glasses today.

Flak Flexibility

One of the coolest things about the Flak Jacket lens is it allows you to change out the lenses so you always have the right coverage for whatever you’re doing. There are lenses that are better for day to day use, and others that are better for high activity. I think the flexibility is a pretty great option.

I also really like that the nose guards on these can be changed out for ones that are the most flexible for you. Every purchase includes two different sizes, and they’re coated with the same protection the arms have. Unobtanium makes it so they grip even when you’re carrying out extreme activities.

As Many Options As You Can Imagine

Flak Jacket glasses come in eight different color combinations, and they vary from standard colors to attention getting options. Buyers can choose between dark grey with G30 iridium lenses, infrared with black iridium lenses, black with black iridium lenses, black “Asian fit” frames with black iridium lenses, metallic red “Asian fit” frames with G30 lenses, navy with Vr28 iridium lenses, white “Asian fit” with slate iridium lenses and white with black iridium lenses.

Flak Jacket Designs

Flak Can Be Too Light

These are not lenses that will totally cover your eyes, and they are not very dark. They may not be the best option for extreme sunlight or if you like darker coverage. I tend to gravitate toward the darkest lenses possible, so these might not quite meet my needs, but then these aren’t women’s glasses!

Flexible, Rugged and Great Quality

Overall, I like the flexibility of these sunglasses. After all, even men want options with their eyewear these days! The style is unmistakably Oakley and as I would expect, the quality overall matches the brand. They’re not overwhelmingly expensive at just under $150, so if you want to hit the slopes with a sturdy new pair of specs, breeze on over here and make them yours.
